With COVID19 causing people to stay at home more than ever, I began thinking about how difficult it is to have food shipped where I live (the rural south). I decided to see what delivery options there are which sent me to amazon. They are the largest marketplace on the internet and have a good amount of food available. I decided to see if I could make a weeks worth of real meals only using items I can get shipped through Amazon. First thing I needed to do is establish what the rules are. The ingredients it must be able to be shipped anywhere. The meals must be legitimate meals, not raman noodle type stuff. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner must be accounted for. Each meal must include a beverage of some sort. (Note that I am an Amazon affiliate and I get paid for qualifying purchases)

I managed to create the following weeks worth of meals with just Amazon items.

Day one

Breakfast: Bacon and Hashbrowns, and Coffee with chocolate powdered creamer

Lunch: Tuna Salad Sandwich, with Doritos on the side and Juice to Drink

Dinner: Buffalo Chicken Mac and Cheese, with Raspberry Ice

The following is my painstaking process to come up with this menu and links to all food items mentioned.

The first meal I decided to deal with was breakfast. Since most people eat the same breakfast every day I figured this would be an easy place to start. I was wrong, so wrong, this was one of the most difficult meals to come up with something decent to make. This had a lot to do with the lack of access to dairy, you simply can't get milk or eggs on Amazon aside from the powdered stuff and I didn't want to make that the meal! This also means no cereal. this left my options somewhat limited. I did find these pancake bowls.

They are food, but they didn't seem very nutritious so I kept moving.

no cereal cause no milk, also considered oatmeal but that doesn't stick with you. Then I remembered, I get cured bacon so I found this bacon and some hash browns!

If you eat breakfast you need coffee to drink so I went with Maxwell House. I already knew I needed to find powdered creamer so I went with Coffee Mate Sugar Free Creamy Chocolate.

Breakfast our total already is 35.69. Honestly kind of expensive but for a week of breakfast it could be worse.

Now for lunch and dinner, I thought these two meals would be really hard, and it was at first but after a little bit I started getting a lot of ideas. The first thing I did was look for meat to base meals around and found tuna and chicken. I figured both would be good in the form of a sandwich so I picked out some Nature's own butter Bread. The bread was a whopping $14 which was shocking. I found a ton of these Items are really expensive I was already at $75.81 and only really have breakfast, but I needed to press on so I got mayonnaise Doritos, and pickle relish. So I now have tuna salad and chicken salad and a side for both and it was starting to shape up.

I then started building around these meats. I came up with mac and cheese, then thought how can I make that better. Add Sriracha and chicken and boom, you have buffalo chicken mac and cheese! Then I had an ADHD moment and remembered I don't have drinks so I got and juice. I Began noticing even the sodas are expensive, like $10 for a two liter. I finally found some fruit drinks called Ice for a decent price.

After my moment of distraction I got back to the food and came up with Chicken tacos, I needed shells, seasoning, beans and nacho cheese. This can be easily turned into Chicken nachos with some tortilla chips. The total right now is $158.97.

I then thought of some cheap meals and came up with spaghetti. I needed Pasta, Sauce, and garlic for flavor. I noticed I was having a hard time coming up with tuna ideas so I took some time to look for a few ideas. I found a recipe for a tuna pasta salad and all I would need is the pasta salad! Then I thought of some teriyaki chicken and some noodles to go with it. Then I ran across two easy meal ideas microwave lasagna and Asian Street Noodles. Lastly I had stuff to make buffalo street tacos using the chicken, sriracha and shells from before.

My total was $192.90. Yikes! It was really eye opening to see how difficult grocery shopping could be for some home bound people especially if they live in a remote area. The biggest thing I realized was that it is expensive to have to try to live that way, not only that but you have to be extremely creative to come up with meals. The only reasonable grocery items were the dry goods.

I hope this was as informitive for you guys as much as it was for me.
